Eroticon 2017 – Kinky Collars, Obscene Text & Slip Knots

After this post I promise you can stop hearing me harp on about Eroticon! At least until next year, when I absolutely will be going again. The whole experience has been amazing from start until finish.

Friday

Friday morning I grabbed my luggage and headed out the door. A boat and three train rides later I was in Camden checking into my hotel. I stayed at the Haverstock hotel and lucked out on that one. A good-sized room with modern fittings and friendly staff.

I only had an hour before I had to head out the door again for the Friday night meet and greet. Or so I thought. I got the time wrong and got there an hour early. Oops!

I considered running away in fear about 100 times before forcing myself into the Holiday Inn. After a quick signing in I made a beeline for the bar. I was one of the first to arrive. So stood in fear, I paid my vodka orange some excessive attention.

I was about ready to make a run for it when the lovely Molly came and spoke to me. Since most people are anonymous it was nice to see a face I recognized. I then got the chance to speak to Girlonthenet. She really calmed my nerves. She’s so friendly it’s impossible not to feel relaxed and comfortable around her.

Another vodka orange down and I was so relieved when Scandarella came to say hello. I had already spotted her but was too scared to start a conversation. And of course I recognized CandySnatch straight away with her gorgeous pink hair! They let me sit with them and TheMonkeyAndTheSort and it was wonderful to get to know them all in person.

I did leave a little early as although my anxiety had improved, it was still very high. I grabbed a chinese take away on route back to the hotel and slept off the four vodkas.

Saturday

So me being me, I got lost saturday morning and missed some of the opening panel. Which was disappointing as the part I did catch was full of helpful info for bloggers. Every attendee got an Eroticon schedule and a goody bag. It was at this point I realised I still hadn’t chosen a speech for the first part of the day.

I decided to see FormidableFemme talk on Sex blogging as feminism and social justice. It was a fantastic, passionate talk. Although I have a preference for the term gender equality. Since starting blogging, I’ve learnt how much of a struggle equality is for other countries. So I was interested to hear her perspective as someone from the USA.

The next talk I attended was that of @MylesJackman on Obscene text: Free speech and the written word. I discovered that almost everything I enjoy writing about is in a grey area of the law. Some posts closer to the breaking of law. But, if Wikipedia can talk about BDSM and bondage then I choose to believe I can too.

So it was time for the talk on my must list. Girlonthenet’s talk on Pitching 101: Learn to sell your ideas. Her talk was amazing and filled me with confidence in myself as a writer. I loved how passionate she was about helping other writers. I also left with so many useful notes jotted down.

Chaturbate sponsored the lunch and it was delicious. By that point I was starving so definitely had my fair share. Thank you Chaturbate! It was great to have another chat with Scandarella and CandySnatchReviews too. They are both so friendly and welcoming!

After all that hardcore listening and learning I was well ready for a bit of fun at the Kinkcraft workshop. We had the opportunity to make paracord collars and of course I went with the bright pink paracord. They were both extremely helpful and it was amazing to create my own collar. I know I will be making a purchase from them soon as I’d love to make something again. Although I got it done in the time frame, I was rushing and couldn’t enjoy it as much as I would at home. I’ve got my kinky and crafty eye on this gift set kit.

My KinkCraft collar. Paracord is still attached as I need to adjust the length.

I do have hopes that soon a podcast will be coming from Aurora Glory (keep an eye/ear out.) So naturally I’d opted for Alix Foxs session. However, I found myself go into the wrong room and attended Kate Listers talk on A history of erotic writing and obscenity in Britain. I could have left, but I was enjoying it too much. Kate Lister is adorable and hilarious and the whole talk was incredibly interesting. It also reiterated the fact that everything I enjoy writing is borderline illegal. But hey ho..

During the coffee break I got to meet Subsmissives, which was awesome! He’s the blogger I have cyberly known the longest, as his wit stood out from the second I joined the Lovehoney community, many a year ago.

Lastly, I had signed up for the Hands on rope workshop with @Djfet74. Partnerless I was lucky enough to find a pair with LapsedCatholicWife. I was expecting to learn some knots etc but it was more about how to use rope in a dominant way. Since I’m a total sub, and I was already nervous as heck, I struggled with this. I did pick up some great tips to pass onto my partner though. And now can’t stop thinking about how amazing it would be to be tied up by Djfet. She really knows what she’s doing with a length of rope!

I was hoping to go to the Saturday night event and have the opportunity to chat to some more people. But by this point I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I had to admit defeat and head back to my hotel room for a Domino’s and an early night.

The whole experience was amazing as were all the attendees! And I am already looking forward to next years Eroticon. I hope next year I will have the courage to chat to a few more people as my nerves did get the better of me this year. Hopefully I will be a bit more organized too, (but probably not!)
